Why use a clothing rental agreement?
Clothing has details that equipment contracts may overlook: sizes, alterations, fabric care, missing pieces, and cleaning. A written record can help distinguish normal wear from staining, tearing, or changes made during the rental.
What to consider including
- Description of each garment, including size, brand, and colour.
- Accessories such as belts, shoes, hangers, covers, or costume pieces.
- Rental period and agreed return method.
- Rental fee, deposit if relevant, and agreed late-return terms.
- Condition at collection, including existing marks or repairs.
- Cleaning instructions and any permission or restrictions on alterations.
A checklist to think through for your situation. It is not a list of clauses: the blank PDF’s own sections and lines are listed above.
Before the fitting or handover
Check fit and condition together, particularly for delicate or expensive fabrics. Photograph distinctive pieces if necessary. Make clear who handles cleaning and what to do if a garment is damaged during the event.
Questions
Can I use this for wedding dresses or formal suits?
Yes as a starting point, but high-value garments may call for more detailed condition records and care instructions.
Should cleaning costs be described separately?
If cleaning is part of the arrangement, state who is responsible, what condition is expected, and which charges have been agreed.
Can I sign an agreement without printing it?
Yes. Rental Agreements lets you complete an agreement and sign on your phone or request a signature by email. The recipient can review and sign in a browser without an account or app.
