About this document

A room in a German Wohngemeinschaft (WG) is usually rented together with access to a kitchen, bathroom and other shared areas. This German-language template provides a starting point for documenting a room tenancy and the practical use of the shared flat.

Identify the room and shared spaces, then consider rent, Nebenkosten, deposit, keys and household arrangements. Crucially, the agreement must match who is actually renting to whom: a direct lease, sublease and joint tenancy have different implications. Check any permissions and applicable tenancy rules.
