About this document

When someone rents a car or van, the handover involves the vehicle, its condition and the people authorized to drive it. A car rental agreement records the arrangement in one place so both sides can check what was agreed before the keys change hands.

Check the registration, driver information, pickup and return times, odometer reading, fuel or charging level and existing damage. Mileage limits, deposits and late-return conditions are also worth reviewing where applicable. The document does not replace insurance, driver-licence checks or vehicle requirements.
