Why use an electronics-specific agreement?
Electronics are often supplied with power adapters, cases, cables, or peripheral devices. They may also hold user accounts or personal data. Recording what was provided and setting clear return expectations helps with both equipment and privacy-related concerns.
What to consider including
- Device name, manufacturer, model, and serial number.
- Charger, cables, peripherals, cases, and other included components.
- Rental dates, collection point, and return arrangements.
- Agreed fee, deposit if any, and relevant loss or damage terms.
- Existing physical faults, battery or screen condition, and photos.
- Appropriate expectations for account removal and personal data at return.

Before the device is handed over
Test essential functions and verify accessories together. Where appropriate, use a separate device-preparation process to sign out of accounts, secure stored information, and restore settings. The rental agreement is not a substitute for proper information-security practices.
Questions
Can this template be used for a laptop rental?
Yes, as a starting point. A laptop rental may also need an explicit process for accounts, software, data, and return of the charger.
Should the device serial number be recorded?
It is useful when available, especially if several otherwise identical devices are being rented.
Is the PDF download the same thing as a signed agreement?
No. A blank PDF is a starting document. It is not a completed or signed rental agreement. Fill in the applicable details and obtain the required signatures before relying on it.
